Brief description of the paper

Academic Standards Committee considered a paper outlining the outcome of the Periodic Review of the Digital Design Studio at Glasgow School of Art undertaken in 2012-13 at its meeting on 24 May 2013. The attached paper outlines an update on the recommendations set out by the Review Panel in 2012-13.

Action Requested

The Academic Standards Committee is asked to note the update as summarised below in four parts and as explained in more detail in the attached paper:

The Academic Review Panel at GSA reviewed the assessment process and criteria for all postgraduate provision and made the following recommendations:

  1. The Digital Design Studio should review the Intended Learning Outcomes in PG programmes to ensure that they are clearly articulated against assessment criteria. Additionally that they should update the Programme documentation, including the Programme Handbook prior to the commencement of session 2013/14.
  2. The Digital Design Studio should give consideration as to how students can be better supported to link with colleagues on other postgraduate programmes and that this should be discussed with the Head of the Graduate School in GSA.
  3. The Digital Design Studio should explore avenues of forging tangible links with the Graduate community in Glasgow.
  4. That the Digital Design Studio work closely with Marketing and Communication to enhance their recruitment strategies.

Academic Standards Committee is asked to note that Recommendations 1 and 4 have been completed and work is ongoing on Recommendations 2 and 3. These are due to be completed in session 2014/15.
