The Glasgow School of Art: Report on Validations, 2011/2012

Brief description of the paper 

The attached paper contains information on the programmes validated by The Glasgow School of Art during session 2011-2012. The relevant validation reports for the following programmes, including the panels’ conditions and recommendations are attached:

International Foundation Programme

Master of Design Innovation and Citizenship/Service Design/Environmental Design

Master of Education in Education and the Creative Disciplines.

It should be noted that there is an error on page 5 of the report. In paragraph three under “Consideration” the words “validation of the International Foundation” should read “validation of the Master of Design Innovation and Citizenship/Service Design/Environmental Design”.

Also, on page 8 - in paragraph five under "Consideration" the words "validation of the International Foundation" should read "validation of the Master of Education in Education in the Creative Disciplines".

Action Requested 

ASC is asked to note that the report for the International Foundation Programme is for information only as the programme is not validated by the University.

The Committee is asked to note the report for Master of Design Innovation and Citizenship/Service Design/Environmental Design and approve the recommendation that the programme be approved as an award of the University of Glasgow from September 2012 subject to the conditions outlined being met.

ASC is also asked to note the report for the Master of Education in Education and the Creative Disciplines and approve the recommendation that the programme be approved as an award of the University of Glasgow from September 2012.

Additionally, ASC is asked to note that the cognate external members of the panels for the latter two awards were unable to be present at the meeting of the panel. Reports reviewing the programmes were received by the panels from these external members instead.

Recommended Person/s responsible for taking action(s) forward 

The Programme Team will implement any conditions and recommendations.

Resource implications 

The University receives validation fees for validated provision which includes a per capita fee for students on validated programmes.

Timescale for Implementation 

Programmes will commence in September 2012.

GSA has an established equality policy in place.
