Annual Report on Undergraduate External Examiners’ Reports – Session 2018-19

Cover Sheet

Lesley Fielding, Senate Office

Brief description of the paper

In October 2018, the Senate Office undertook a review of the reporting arrangements for the External Examiner quality processes. To date, the Senate Office submitted an annual paper to the May meeting of ASC, reporting on both Undergraduate and Postgraduate Taught External Examiner comments. The report provides statistical information and identifies key issues. The review identified that, as most UG reports were received by September/October, it would be pertinent to report these to ASC at an earlier stage to facilitate discussion of issues. It is therefore proposed that the current process of reporting jointly on UG and PGT issues to ASC in May of ASC be revised to the submission of two individual reports on UG and PGT issues as follows:

UG External Examiner comments - January meeting

PGT External Examiner comments - May meeting.

The Appendix providing on overview of statistical information, including UG data, would be submitted with the Postgraduate External Examiner report in May.
