Periodic Subject Review: Responses to the Recommendations Arising from the Periodic Subject Review of Short Courses held on 1 and 2 May 2018

Brief description of the paper 

At its meeting on 5 October 2018, Academic Standards Committee received and approved, the Report of the Periodic Subject Review of Short Courses and associated recommendations. The recommendations contained within the report were approved for onward transmission to those identified for action. This report details the responses and the progress made to date in implementing the recommendations.

The Convener has reviewed the responses and would comment as follows:

The following recommendations have been implemented:

Recommendations 2, 3, 4, 8, 9, 11, 12 and 13. However, Short Courses should be invited to give a further update to Academic Standards Committee next year in respect of recommendations 9 and 13; and

The following recommendations have either not been implemented or only partly implemented and therefore remain open. Short Courses should be invited to submit a further update on progress against these recommendations to Academic Standards Committee in session 2019-20:

Recommendations 1, 5, 6, 7, 10 and 14.

Action Requested 

Academic Standards Committee is asked to consider the adequacy of the responses and the progress made.

Equality implications 

Short Courses should continue to embed consideration of equality and diversity in all its procedures and provision. The committee’s attention is also drawn to recommendation 14.
