Cover Sheet

Brief description of the paper

In May 2017, The Glasgow School of Art (GSA) UPC: Programme Approval Meeting considered and approved an MLitt Art Writing programme. At the November 2017 Academic Standards Committee (ASC) meeting, ASC agreed to validate the programme for a period of six years, commencing in September 2018, subject to the completion of a satisfactory Service Teaching Agreement between the two institutions. [The University will provide teaching and assessment in respect of one course on this programme (this being 20 credits out of a total for the programme of 180).]

The recommendations were made at the May 2017 GSA UPC: Programme Approval Meeting and it was agreed that these should be considered and a report with regard to progress against these made to the Programme Approval Meeting, via GSA Boards of Studies within 12 months.

Academic Standards Committee is asked to consider the adequacy of the actions taken in respect of the recommendations.

Recommended Person/s responsible for taking action(s) forward

GSA.

Resource implications

Members are asked to note that the University will provide teaching and assessment in respect of one course on this programme.

Timescale for Implementation

On-going.

Equality implications

Equality considerations and equality impact assessment are embedded and mainstreamed at GSA. An Equality Impact Assessment (EIA) for the MLitt Art Writing was undertaken in tandem with the development of the Programme Approval documentation and the EIA was considered at the UPC Programme Approval meeting. The outcome of the EIA was that the actions taken, or planned, would promote positive impact for all protected characteristic groups. All future actions taken in relation to this will be examined and reported as part of the Programme Monitoring Annual Report (PMAR).
