Brief description of the paper

This paper contains a report of the review of programmes in the subject group Horticulture and Landscape at SRUC, held on 15 and 16 February 2017. The subject review incorporated the revalidation of the following University of Glasgow validated programmes:

  • BSc (Hons) Horticulture
  • BSc (Hons) Horticulture and Plantmanship
  • BSc (Hons) Garden and Greenspace Design

The Review Panel highlighted a number of conditions (six) and recommendations (nine) throughout the report - see sections 6.2 and 6.3.

Also attached is a paper (ASC 16/74a) outlining SRUC’s responses to the conditions contained in section 6.2 of the report. SRUC has fully addressed the conditions set down by the Review Panel.

The response also addresses some of the relevant recommendations; the remainder of the recommendations will be considered and addressed in an action plan which SRUC will develop by late June 2017. The commencement of the programme in session 2017-2018 is not contingent on SRUC addressing the recommendations.

ASC should note that the Panel was not content with the level of detail provided in the Self Evaluation Document (SED) [See Section 5 of the report]. The Panel therefore requested that the programme team submit a revised SED by the end of September. Despite the lack of detail in the SED the Review Panel was able to reach a conclusion on its recommendations to revalidate the programmes listed above based on the additional feedback from the various groups interviewed.
