Credit Rating of University Widening Participation Programmes

Cover Sheet

Dr Neil Croll, Marketing, Recruitment & International Office

Brief description of the paper

This paper outlines the context behind credit rating the Top-Up Programme on the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework and plans to subsequently credit rate the other UoG Widening Participation (WP) programmes. A question arose regarding the use of the credit points by students within the University. It has been decided that credit points should be used against achieving the adjusted WP entry tariff at point of admission to the University and should not be transferrable or used against degree course credit points. This is the issue ASC members are asked to consider.

Action Requested

The Committee is asked to consider the paper and approve the use of credit points for the Top-Up Programme for purely admissions purposes and not for on degree course.

Recommended Person/s responsible for taking action(s) forward

Dr Neil Croll.

Resource implications

There are no resource implications.

Timescale for Implementation

The Top-Up Programme will be fully credit-rated by 30 June 2017.

Equality implications

There are no equality implications. As a widening access programme, the Top-Up Programme provides an access route to the University for students from widening access backgrounds, including students from within protected characteristic groups. The programme has a wholly positive effect on equality and diversity.
