Periodic Subject Review: Responses to the Recommendations Arising from the Review of Scottish Literature held on 23 March 2016

Brief description of the paper 

Under Summer Powers, Academic Standards Committee received the Report of Periodic Subject Review of Scottish Literature. The recommendations contained within the report were approved for onward transmission to those identified for action. This report details the responses and the progress made to date in implementing the recommendations.

The Convener considers that the Panel’s recommendations have been given reflective and thorough consideration and is satisfied by the responses. Matters where further updates should be requested are noted below.

The Convener would highlight the following:

  • Recommendation 5. Study Abroad (shorter opportunities) - Work is ongoing and progress is being made. The Convener suggests a further update be requested after a period of 12 months.
  • Recommendation 6. University regulations blocking study abroad opportunities – An investigation into the source of the block has been initiated. A further update should be provided as soon as possible.
  • Recommendation 8. Potential for collaboration with other schools and subjects –College developments in regard to the MA curriculum are noted and the Convener suggests that a further update is requested in 12 months when the potential impact of these developments is known.

Academic Standards Committee is asked to consider the adequacy of the responses and the progress made.
