Brief description of the paper

The Academic Standards Committee received the Report of the Academic Review of Glasgow International College in October 2015 and an update at the meeting in April 2016. The recommendations contained within the Report were approved for onward transmission to those identified for action and a year was given to implement the recommendations. This Report details the responses and the progress made in implementing the outstanding recommendations since the April 2016 update.

In April 2016 ASC had requested updates on the following recommendations:

Recommendation 1: how GIC plan to embed the mentoring process;

Recommendation 2: progress on the data entry requirement and student integration.

ASC had noted with regard to Recommendation 9, that the final proposal regarding the review of the academic-related Boards would be submitted for approval. That proposal forms the final part of this submission.

The Academic Review Panel Convener has reviewed the very considered and detailed responses given by both GIC and appropriate UoG staff and recommends to ASC that progress is being made and no further action is required at this stage.

Action Requested

Academic Standards Committee is asked to:

i) consider the adequacy of the responses to Recommendations 1 and 2 and the progress made;

ii) approve the proposed restructuring of CBoS and JAMB (Recommendation 9).

Recommended Person/s responsible for taking action(s) forward

Kenneth Hutton: Academic Collaborations Office/Senate Office.

Resource implications

No direct resource implications have been identified.

Timescale for Implementation

All of the recommendations have now been addressed and responses implemented with the exception of Recommendation 9 for which ASC’s approval is sought here. It is hoped that the restructured Board will meet with full approval for the first time on 6 December 2016.

Equality implications

No specific implications identified.
