Brief description of the paper 

The attached is a report from The Glasgow School of Art (GSA) Undergraduate and Postgraduate (UPC) Programme Approval meeting held in May 2016.

GSA Academic Council has approved the meeting’s recommendation that the BDes (Hons) Sound for the Moving Image be introduced at GSA in September 2018.

The BDes (Hons) Sound for the Moving Image will build on the success of the postgraduate MDes Sound for the Moving Image programme and aims to create an undergraduate programme which will enable students to develop their creative and technical skills in sound for the moving image.

The programme is based on a 2+2 model which will allow applicants direct entry to Year 3 from Further Education. There will be no exit point or award at the end of Year 3 of the programme.

Action Requested 

Academic Standards Committee is asked to approve the introduction of the BDes (Hons) Sound for the Moving Image programme at The Glasgow School of Art, commencing in September 2018.

There are no resource implications for the University.

Timescale for Implementation 

Subject to ASC approval, the programme will commence in September 2018.

Equality implications 

The Programme Teams will undertake an Equality Impact Assessment for the programme before Term 3 in session 2016-17.
