Brief description of the paper 

The attached is a report from the GSA Undergraduate and Postgraduate (UPC) Programme Approval meeting held in May 2016.

GSA Academic Council has approved the meeting’s recommendation that the BA/BSc (Hons) Immersive Systems Design be introduced at GSA in September 2018.

The programme will develop graduates with strong practical software and immersive systems (Virtual Reality) development skills. Students will undertake a common curriculum in Years 1 and 2, specialising in Years 3 and 4 in one of the following pathways:- User Experience, Smart Technologies, 3D Modelling, or Games and Virtual Reality. The title of the different pathways, however, will not form part of the named award.

The award of BA or BSc will be determined according to whether a student chooses to undertake a BSc dissertation or a more critical studies focused/creative option in Year 4 of the programme.

Action Requested 

Academic Standards Committee is asked to approve the introduction of the BA/BSc (Hons) Immersive Systems Design programme at The Glasgow School of Art, commencing in September 2018.

GSA.

There are no resource implications for the University.

Timescale for Implementation 

Subject to ASC approval, the programme will commence in September 2018.

Equality implications 

The Programme Teams will undertake an Equality Impact Assessment for the programme before Term 3 in session 2016-17.
