Brief description of the paper

The attached paper outlines the Glasgow School of Art’s (GSA) Learning and Teaching Team’s proposed major amendment to the MEd in Creative Education programme. The programme has been ‘rewritten to reconceptualise the programme aims and ILOs, and subsequently the stage and course aims and ILOs, in order to ensure they are fully aligned in delivering the core programme’.

The proposed amendment has been approved by the Deputy Director (Academic) on behalf of GSA’s Executive Group and includes a proposal that the title of the MEd in Creative Education programme be amended to the MEd in Teaching, Learning and Supervisory Practices in the Creative Disciplines.

This new blended Masters programme is designed to develop students as critically reflective Higher Education academic practitioners and researchers. Its focus is within the creative disciplines in two key areas: learning and teaching, and supervisory practices. In particular, it emphasises the development of research and teaching linkages within and between learning and teaching and supervisory practice.

The programme will form a key component of GSA’s staff development provision. It will deliver formalised CPD for academic colleagues in learning, teaching and supervisory practices and CPD for professional service colleagues who have a role in supporting student learning and/or teaching.

The new programme offers four exit awards:

  • PGCert in Higher Education Learning and Teaching (Creative Practices)
  • PGCert in Supervisory Practice (Creative Practices)
  • PGDip in Academic Practice (Creative Arts)
  • MEd in Teaching, Learning and Supervisory Practices in the Creative Disciplines

Subject to this major programme amendment proposal being approved by Academic Standards Committee (ASC), the GSA Learning and Teaching Team will develop approval documentation for consideration/approval at GSA prior to onward submission to ASC in May 2017.
