Major Programme Amendment Proposal – MLitt Fine Art Practice Programme, The Glasgow School of Art

Cover Sheet

Robbie Mulholland, Clerk, Joint Liaison Committee of the University of Glasgow and The Glasgow School of Art

Brief description of the paper

The attached paper is a proposal from Glasgow School of Art (GSA) seeking approval for the addition of a new pathway to the MLitt Fine Art Practice programme within the School of Fine Art. Currently the programme offers five pathways which include: Painting, Sculpture, Print Media, Photography and the Moving Image and Drawing. The additional pathway relates to the provision of Performance within the School of Fine Art.

The proposal notes that Performance has long been an integral part of Fine Art practice but currently there is no Postgraduate provision for studying it in Scotland. The School of Fine Art emphasises that the strength of the proposal is evidenced by feedback and engagement from students in the School’s undergraduate departments and the quality and diversity of the work the students produce.

Subject to the proposal being approved by Academic Standards Committee, final Major Programme Amendment documentation will be submitted to the committee in November 2016.
