Following discussion at its meeting in February, ASC agreed that current Guidelines on Discretion should be re-drafted to improve clarity and include examples of the options available to Examination Boards. The Guidelines i) confirm criteria which cannot be used when determining whether candidates whose GPA falls in the zone of discretion should have their overall result moved up to the next category; and ii) provide options for Examination Boards to select when considering cases in the discretionary zones.

ASC is invited to consider for approval the revised guidance which is located within the Guide to the Code of Assessment.

Senate Office will circulate the revised guidance to Schools and Colleges prior to the forthcoming Examination Board meetings.
