Brief description of the paper

The attached paper is a Statement of Intent for a proposed Master of Contemporary Curatorial Practice. The proposed jointly taught programme with the Glasgow School of Art (GSA), if approved, would become an award of the University.

Action Requested

The Committee is invited to approve the proposed 12 month jointly taught programme for development to go forward for validation as an award of the University.

The Committee is also invited to note that the final title of the programme is still to be confirmed.

Recommended Person/s responsible for taking action(s) forward

Professor Nick Pearce (Head of School of Culture and Creative Arts, UoG)

Dr Tina Fiske (Lecturer, School of Culture and Creative Arts, UoG)

Dr Dominic Paterson (Convenor of taught postgraduate programmes, School of Culture and Creative Arts, UoG)

Dr Alistair Payne (Acting Head of School of Fine Art, The Glasgow School of Art)

Resource implications

Staffing: The proposal is that both UoG and GSA provide 0.2FTE core staffing for the Programme, with additional teaching input from other UoG/GSA staff members as appropriate to areas of teaching and research/practice specialism. This would enable the different teaching methods to be carried out with support at key points (through workshops and project delivery) from Visiting Lecturers (gallerists, curators and professionals in the field.)

Accommodation requirements: Students would be allocated space within GSA and would have access to postgraduate study facilities at UoG. No additional resources are required for accommodation at either GSA or UoG.

Learning Resources and Student Support: As jointly registered students of both GSA and UoG students will have acess to the library and learning r and student support resources within both GSA and UoG. The programme team are currently looking at impact on staff time resource.

There may be a possible impact on English language support at the University of Glasgow.

Timescale for Implementation

If approved, a validation event will take place at GSA during academic session 2013-2014 with a proposed programme start date of September, 2014.

Equality implications

GSA has an established equality policy in place which aligns to the University's.
