Review of Programme Approval during 2011-12: Report of Meeting of College Deans of Learning & Teaching – 18 May 2012

Brief description of the paper 

A report of the meeting of the College Deans of Learning & Teaching to review the programme and course approval process as it operated during 2011-12.

Action Requested 

Academic Standards Committee is invited to note the report with its overall conclusion that there was general satisfaction with operation of the process and to confirm the recommendation that current arrangements should be continued in 2012-13.

ASC is also invited to consider the following:

i) The proposal that RIO monitored their ‘traffic light’ system used in pre-approval consultations by comparing this advice with actual recruitment levels after the first two years’ intake;

ii) The issue of effectively communicating plan changes to interested/ relevant parties (see penultimate paragraph on page 2 of the report).

Recommended Person/s responsible for taking action(s) forward 

The Senate Office will co-ordinate any actions arising from discussion at ASC.
