Report on the Validation of the Joint Degree of MSc Product Design Engineering at The Glasgow School of Art

Brief description of the paper 

In May 2011, ASC was advised that the Joint MSc in Product Design Engineering had been validated by The Glasgow School of Art’s Academic Council in March 2011. The validation report is provided in Appendix 1.

Further ratification was required from the School of Engineering and the attached paper is a minute from the Board of Studies, College of Science & Engineering regarding the validation, at College level, of this Joint Degree. The Statement of Intent had previously been approved by ASC with a potential start date of September 2011 but this was deferred.

Action Requested 

The Committee is asked to note the approval of the programme at College level.

The Committee is further asked to approve the programme for commencement in September 2012, subject to the recommendations outlined below:

  • That the previous course codes be replaced with new ones;
  • That student numbers are sufficient for the course to be viable;
  • That the programme be available as a design conversion course for graduates of the BSc in Mechanical Engineering and Mechanical Design Engineering students, but not for graduates of the BSc PDE.
