Report on Validation and Re-validation of Programmes at the Scottish Agricultural College

Brief description of the paper 

The attached papers are reports from the Scottish Agricultural College (SAC) on the re/validation of the following programmes:

  1. The report of the review of the proposed BSc/BSc (Hons) Garden Design. The Statement of Intent for this programme was approved at the November, 2010 meeting of ASC [ASC/2010/38]. The proposal for validation was reviewed by the Horticulture Subject Group at SAC in May/June 2011. The panel concluded that the proposal for validation should be revised according to their recommendations and brought forward for validation in February/March 2012. (See Appendix 1)
  2. The report of the Re-validation of the BSc (Hons) Horticulture and BSc/BSc (Hons) Horticulture with Plantsmanship by the Horticulture Subject Group at SAC. The report concluded that the programmes be re-validated, subject to a number of conditions and recommendations being met. (See Appendix 2)
Action Requested 

The Committee is asked to approve the proposal that BSc/BSc (Hons) Garden Design be submitted for validation in 2012 subject to the revision of the proposed programme.

The Committee is further asked to approve-in-principle the re-validation of the BSc/BSc (Hons) Horticulture and to note that the re-validation is subject to a certain conditions and recommendations.

Resource implications 

None.

Timescale for Implementation 

The revised proposal for validation of the BSc/BSc (Hons) Garden Design is scheduled to be submitted by February/March, 2012.

The Senate Office has yet to be notified by SAC of the timescale for revision and incorporation of conditions for the BSc/BSc (Hons) Horticulture and BSc/BSc (Hons) Horticulture with Plantsmanship.
