Departmental Programmes of Teaching, Learning and Assessment: Responses to the Recommendations Arising from the Review of Urban Studies held on 15 and 16 March 2010

Cover Sheet

Mrs Ruth Cole, Clerk to the Review Panel

Brief description of the paper

At its meeting of 28 May 2010, Academic Standards Committee received the Report of the Review of Departmental Programmes of Teaching Learning and Assessment (now Periodic Subject Review) of the Department of Urban Studies held on 15 and 16 March 2010. Following consideration by the Committee, the recommendations were forwarded for action by the relevant staff. The attached report summarises the responses and confirms the progress to date. The Convener considers that the Panel’s recommendations have been, as far as possible, given full and appropriate consideration with the exception of the following:-

Recommendation 1: The response does not mention the development of a subject-specific educational philosophy, and indicates that limited progress has been made in relation to formalising local QA procedures.

Recommendation 2: The Head of Subject’s attention will be drawn to the contents of the University’s Assessment Policy in relation to the timing for the return of feedback.

Recommendation 9: The response indicates that possibilities for study abroad have been considered and very little demand has been found. It would be helpful to have more information on what work has been undertaken here and to recommend that the development possibilities are fully explored with the College International Development Manager.
