Brief description of the paper 

At its meeting on 28 May 2010, Academic Standards Committee received the Report of the Review of Departmental Programmes of Teaching Learning & Assessment of the Dental School held on 25 and 26 March 2010. Following consideration by the Committee, the recommendations were forwarded for action to the relevant staff. The attached report summarises the responses and confirms the progress to date.

The responses have been considered by the Convener of the Panel, who notes that appropriate consideration has been given to the recommendations.

Action Requested 

Academic Standards Committee is asked to consider the adequacy of the responses, in particular the response to recommendation 14:

The Panel recommends that once the College of Medical, Veterinary & Life Sciences has bedded down one year post restructure, that the Head of College reflects on whether the Head of the Dental School should have a seat on the College Management Group and/or whether the Dental School should become a formal School within the College. [Paragraph Conclusions ].

These have been outlined per recommendation.

Resource implications 

There are considerable resource implications, particularly for recommendation 5 and 6 which have been responded to by the Vice Principal (Strategy & Resource) and the Director, Estates & Buildings.

Not applicable.

There are equality implications for recommendation 3.
