Code of Assessment: Arrangements for Visiting/Exchange Students

Cover Sheet

Ms Helen Butcher, Clerk to the Committee

Brief description of the paper

Guidance has been sought on assessment arrangements for visiting students who undertake assessment at the University. This is normally in the context of a student exchange or study abroad arrangement where the student spends a proportion of their study time for an award from an overseas institution at Glasgow.

A number of years ago a set of principles relating to the assessment of visiting students were approved by ASC’s predecessor, the Academic Regulations Committee (see Appendix 1). These were not however formalised into regulation and have not been widely disseminated to staff.

Action Requested

For consideration:

It is proposed that the previously agreed principles are reviewed and updated with a view to incorporating them into the Code of Assessment. In particular, consideration should be given to students leaving Glasgow i) in advance of the scheduled assessment period; and ii) in advance of the Board of Examiners’ formal consideration of the results.

If ASC agrees to this course of action, the Academic Regulations Sub-Committee will be invited to undertake this task.

Recommended Person/s responsible for taking action(s) forward

Resource implications

None identified.

Timescale for Implementation

Guidance to be issued during session 2011-12. Update of formal regulations by the beginning of session 2012-13.
