Brief description of the paper 

A report on various issues arising from the meeting of ARSC held on 1 November 2010.

Action Requested 

ASC is asked to:

  1. Approve the proposed definition of Principal/Subsidiary Honours degrees for inclusion in the generic undergraduate regulations.
  2. Consider a possible review of the provisions on rounding of marks, arising from comments made in External Examiners' reports.
  3. Approve ARSC's proposal in relation to the threshold grade for reassessment on postgraduate certificate and diploma programmes.
  4. Approve ARSC's proposal to strengthen provisions in relation to reassessment opportunities for coursework.
  5. Consider whether students should be permitted to be reassessed in all components of a course where the course threshold grade has not been achieved.

Matters to note

 

  • ARSC's findings in relation to a concern about the application of the Code of Assessment expressed in the FQAEOG's annual report.
  • Remit and membership of ARSC.
  • ARSC will report to a later meeting on: duration of examinations; revised M.Res regulations and other revisions to Masters regulations; rules/guidelines for the administration of Joint Honours exam boards.
Recommended Person/s responsible for taking action(s) forward 

ARSC in conjunction with Senate Office will take forward agreed actions including the preparation of regulations where appropriate.

Resource implications 

None identified.

Timescale for Implementation 

Agreed interpretation of regulations to be implemented immediately, and new/revised regulations to be prepared for inclusion in the 2011-12 University Calendar.
