Brief description of the paper 

Report of the ASC Programme Approval Group for the Faculties of Medicine, Veterinary Medicine and Education

The Group met on 26 March 2010 to consider proposals for new programmes and major changes to existing programmes.

Action Requested 

ASC is requested to note the observations of the Programme Approval Group and to confirm its recommendations.

The PAG recommended each of the following programmes subject to the satisfactory outcome of actions identified in the report. An update on progress with completion of actions necessary for full approval will be given to ASC in May.

Faculty of Medicine

Professional Doctorate Health Professions Education (New)

MSc (Clin Sci) Critical Care and Medical Informatics (New)

PgCert / CPD Behavioural Sleep Medicine (New)

PgCert Child Health (New)

PgCert Public Health (New)

Faculty of Veterinary Medicine

BSc (VetSci) Marine & Freshwater Biology / Zoology (New)

Faculty of Education

Certificate HE in Egyptology (Language / Material Culture) (New)

Diploma HE in Creative Writing (New)

BEd (Hons) (Major change)

MEd/PGDip Community Learning & Development (New)

MEd Religious Studies (New)

MSc Young People, Social Inclusion & Change (New)

PgCert Teaching in Higher Education (New)

For the following proposed programmes the PAG was currently unable to recommend approval for reasons identified in the report. The issues of concern will be taken up with the Faculty and an update will be given to ASC in May on whether approval can be recommended.

*BA Drug & Alcohol Practice (New)

*CertHE Employability Practice (New)

*CertHE Equality & Diversity (New)

MEd Professional Practice (New)

* In relation to these programmes, ASC is asked to advise on the allocation of notional learning hours between conventional study and work-based learning.

Recommended Person/s responsible for taking action(s) forward 

Actions requested will be taken forward by faculty administrative staff and progress monitored by the Clerk of the Programme Approval Group.
