Student Lifecycle Project - Policy Issues

Cover Sheet

Ms H Butcher, Clerk to the Committee

Brief description of the paper

The paper outlines the policy issues arising from the Student Lifecycle Project (SLP) which Academic Standards Committee (or its sub-groups) have been asked to consider.  These cover terminology, harmonisation of regulations, standardisation of course codes and data for Examination Boards.

Action Requested

ASC is invited to

1.      Consider the terminology of the new system and recommend to EdPSC any changes considered necessary for implementation of the system at Glasgow (taking account of the recommendation to keep revision of terminology in the new system to a minimum) – See item 1.

2.      Comment on whether SHE Levels 1, 2, 3, H, M and D should continue to be used to describe course levels (rather than SCQF levels 7 – 12) – See item 3.

3.      Note proposed development of the supplementary undergraduate degree regulations which will be taken forward by the Academic Regulations Sub-Committee – See item 2.

4.      Note proposed work on standardising data to be presented to Examination Boards which will be taken forward by an ad hoc Group including members of the Code of Assessment Working Group – See item 4.

Resource implications

None identified at this stage.

Timescale for Implementation

SLP has reported that the policy decisions identified above need to be completed by the end of May 2009 – although with regard to the development of the supplementary regulations, this deadline relates to the initial scoping of the work, rather than the regulatory development itself.

Equality implications

Not applicable.
