Brief description of the paper

At it’s meeting on 30 May 2008, Academic Standards Committee received the 12 month update on progress of recommendations arising from the above DPTLA review which was held on 20 February 2007.

In considering the responses to the recommendations, ASC identified two responses relating to attendance issues which they considered would benefit from further elaboration by the Department.

In relation to recommendation 8, it was suggested that in dealing with poor student attendance, the Department could identify action to be taken in cases where poor attendance was noted.

The response to recommendation 9 had revealed student use of hand outs in lieu of attendance, and it was suggested that in light of this, further consideration could be given to the content and use of student hand outs to try and encourage greater attendance at lectures.

The Department’s response is attached.
